| Breeding: With the onset of heavy summer rain, the frog digs its way out of its burrow with only one thing in mind - to find a mate. Male Ornate Burrowing Frogs call from shallow puddles of storm rain, floating on the water with all four legs spread out. The call sounds like the "THWACK" of a tennis racquet on a tennis ball, and is repeated every few seconds. The female comes to the puddle in response to the male's call, they amplex, and while both are floating on the surface lay 500 to 1000 eggs in a lightly frothy nest. Her eggs have been forming in her belly during the months of dormancy underground. | ![]() |
