Care of Native Frog Tadpoles

Suitable containers: Aquarium, pond, paddling pool etc. Container must be non-metallic and not too small for your quantity of tadpoles. When fully grown a maximum of 20 tadpoles per 10 litres of water will ensure the greatest success.

Water requirements: Rain water, fresh water from creek or pond (without predatory fish or other tadpoles), or dechlorinated tap water only. As tadpoles are very sensitive to chemicals (and metallic impurities) the water must be dechlorinated. Leave the open container in full sunlight for 7 to 10 days.

Location of container: Table height to avoid ground dwelling predators, including cane toads. An area that has about half of the day in shade is best as the tadpoles are very heat sensitive.
