The Cane Toad is native to South and Central America. It was introduced to Australia in 1935 in an attempt to control the Cane Beetle in Northern Queensland. What the importers seemed to have forgotten to take into account was that Cane Beetles can fly and Cane Toads can't. Let's just forget that little bit for a second and think about this one. When the Cane Toad had the Cane Beetles under control (and lets remember, we are forgetting Cane Toads can't fly) what was the Cane Toad going to eat then? Maybe they thought they would just catch them again and ship them home. No Brownie points for coming to the conclusion that they "goofed. Ok, so we're stuck with this pest. In suburban situations we can help control the breeding and impact on the Cane Toad by "disposing of them whenever possible. A few days in the freezer is probably the most humane way to deal with them. Here's an interesting bit of trivia. Prince Charles and Lady Di were given as a wedding gift a book bound in Cane Toad skin.
