Description: A Tusked Frog is a ground dwelling frog and is definitely not a pretty frog. It is small, brown and warty, and mostly all you see of it are two eyes and a nose poking out of the water. When seen wet, they appear very dark brown, but occasionally you meet one out of the water, and when the skin is dry you can really appreciate the range of pretty brown blotches and stripes on their body. Their head is wider than their abdomen, giving them a "boofy” appearance. The back is mottled brown and warty and quite often has a cream stripe from the tip of the snout down the centre of the back to the rear.
The stripe is seen from the metamorph stage if it is to be present, but not all Tusked Frogs have it. The cream legs and toes have clearly defined dark brown bands encircling them. The belly is blotched black and white and the groin has red to orange flashes as does the back edge of the hind legs.
